Handset
With the handset facing you, the antenna is a narrow, 2-and-a-half inches long protrusion at the top right. Just below the top, on the front of the handset is a shallow seashell-shaped concave. This is the earpiece. The smooth surface below the earpiece is the display. In the center below the display is the NAVIGATOR control, which is a large cross control with four active areas. The active areas are the 12 oclock, 3 oclock, 6 oclock and 9 oclock positions. The 12 and 6 oclock positions are UP and DOWN keys respectively. These are also the VOLUME control increase and decrease keys. The 3 and 9 oclock positions are the RIGHT and LEFT arrow keys. The RIGHT arrow key is also FORWARD or EDIT key. The LEFT arrow key is also BACK key. The upper left of the NAVIGATOR control, a triangle button with a clipped edge is the TALK button. The smaller oval button below the TALK button is the CHANNEL button. This is also the FUNCTION or EXIT button. To the upper right of the NAVIGATOR control, an oval button is the INTERCOM button. The INTERCOM button is also the CLEAR button. The smaller oval button below the INTERCOM button is the FAX RECEIVE button. Below these buttons is the telephone keypad laid out in the conventional telephone arrangement with a nib on the 5 button. On the lower left below the keypad is the FLASH button. The FLASH button is also the CALL WAIT or PLAYBACK button. On the lower right of the keypad is the REDIAL button. The REDIAL button is also the PAUSE button. The indentation between the FLASH and REDIAL button is the microphone. The 2 metal ridges at the bottom of both sides of the handset are the charge contacts. The headset jack is on the left side edge of the handset, at the height between the display and TALK button. It has a rubber cover that is opened from front to back, and is not completely removable.
Base unit
With the base unit facing you, the antennas should be straight up on the both sides, towards the back of the unit. The handsets charging cradle is on the left of the base unit. This is a deep depression near the front. For charging, the bottom of the handset gets put into the cradle with the handset buttons facing up. The handset must be placed in the cradle in an upright position. The unit will beep when the handset is properly placed in the cradle for charging.
