The arm lead should now be fitted to the turntable according to the manufacturers instructions. Allow enough cable for the 5-way plug to be fitted to the base of the pillar with the arm at the correct height. The 5-way plug should be fitted with the two identification lugs against the base of the pillar. A flying earth lead with spade terminal is provided for earthing the arm to the turntable chassis. On the Logic dm 101 attach this terminal to one of the mounting plate screws. Mount the cartridge in the headshell, but first either remove the stylus or protect it using the guard supplied with the cartridge. Usually it is best to have the nuts uppermost to avoid contact between these and the cartridge body. Do not tighten the cartridge bolts at this stage. Connect the signal wires to the cartridge. These conform with the standard colour code, i.e. RED GREEN WHITE BLUE - RIGHT CHANNEL SIGNAL - RIGHT CHANNEL GROUND - LEFT CHANNEL SIGNAL - LEFT CHANNEL GROUND

Fit the arm into the baseplate in the correct angular position according to the mounting template and tighten the pillar locking screw sufficiently to hold the arm at some arbitrary height. Screw the counterweight on to its shaft with the calibrations facing towards the headshell, and fit the locking nut. Balance the arm and apply approximately 1 gram tracking force. With the stylus resting on a record, adjust the height of the arm pillar such that the tube is parallel to the record surface. Tighten the pillar locking screw, taking care to keep the pillar at the correct angle. Place the cartridge alignment protractor over the centre spindle of the turntable, and adjust the cartridge overhang so that the stylus accurately follows the arc on the protractor. Ensure that the cartridge body lies parallel with the guide lines on the protractor at both test points. Correct alignment of the cartridge will ensure optimum tracking. Tighten the cartridge mounting bolts, and connect the arm lead plug to the pillar. Make any adjustments necessary to the turntable suspension at this stage.

Setting tracking force
Turn the counterweight and locknut, keeping them together, until the arm balances in a horizontal position. Each small division on the calibration represents 0,1 gram tracking force. Looking at the graduated face of the counterweight, turn it anti-clockwise the appropriate amount according to the recommended tracking force for the cartridge, and lock it with the nut. N.B. Graduations on the additionally available 180 gram counterweight represent 0,2 gram for each small division.
Setting the bias compensation
The bias compensation is pre-set to zero on assembly. The divisions on the bias knob each represent 0,5 gram tracking force approximately. Turn the bias knob anti-clockwise an amount correspondingly to the tracking force used. N.B. Bias compensation can only be set approximately since the requirement varies with stylus profile, cantilever compliance and groove modulation. Best results are obtained using a test record. Zero bias can be checked out with the arm balanced in the horizontal position. The arm should remain stationary when set in a position with the stylus above the outer edge of a 12 inch record, but should swing slowly out if set above the inner grooves of the record.
Cue device
Check that the cue device lifts the stylus clear of the record, and that the cueing platform is clear of the arm tube with the stylus on a record. If necessary the height may be adjusted by slackening the clamping screw in the side of the mounting platform.
