Digital Audio Output (PLAY)
(Press [ENTER] (10) to show the following settings. To return to the previous screen, press [RETURN] (28).) PCM Down Conversion (page 55) [On] [Off] �Select �On� when using a copyright protected disc, since the audio output does not work. Dolby Digital (page 55) Choose whether to output Dolby Digital bitstream signals for decoding on other equipment or to convert them to PCM signals for 2-channel output. ª Picture
Hybrid VBR Resolution (REC)
Switch between automatic and fixed hybrid VBR resolution when recording. [Automatic] [Fixed] Automatic The unit automatically switches resolution rates during recording according to the image. The unit reduces block noise, which occurs during MPEG compression, by selecting the optimum rate. Fixed The resolution rate is fixed to ensure the resolution rate is not reduced.

Still Mode (PLAY)
Select the type of picture shown when you pause play. [Automatic] [Field] [Frame] Field Less blurred field stills are shown. Select if jittering occurs when �Automatic� is selected. Frame Sharper frame stills are shown. Select if small text or fine patterns cannot be seen clearly when �Automatic� is selected.

Audio Mode for XP Recording (REC)
Choose the audio type when recording with XP mode. [Dolby Digital] [LPCM] �Even if �LPCM� is set, sound becomes �Dolby Digital� in recording mode other than XP mode.

Seamless Play (PLAY)
Turn seamless play on or off on discs with play lists. �Seamless Play does not work with programmes recorded in LPCM or when using Quick View (Play k1.3). [On] [Off] On The scenes in play lists created with this unit are played seamlessly. This may cause shifting of the points where scenes change. Some play lists cannot be played seamlessly. �Seamless Play does not effect programmes that have been recorded with LPCM sound. Off The points where scenes in play lists are played accurately, but this may cause the picture to freeze for a moment when scenes change.

Audio Mode for DV Input (REC) (page 26)
You can select the kind of sound when recording from the unit�s DV terminal. [Stereo 1] [Stereo 2] [Mix]

Choose whether to show on-screen messages automatically or not. [Automatic] [Off]

FL Display
Changes the brightness of the unit�s display. [Bright] [Dim] [Automatic] Automatic In standby mode: Off During normal play: Dim Others: Bright

ª Sound
PLAY t1.3 & Audio during Search (PLAY) (page 14)
[RAM] [DVD-R] [DVD-A] [DVD-V] [VCD] Choose whether to operate the Quick View (Play k1.3) or not and whether to have sound during search. [On] [Off] [DVD-A] �You may hear sound regardless of this setting with some discs.

Dynamic Range Compression (PLAY)
[DVD-V] (Dolby Digital only) Change the dynamic range for late night viewing. [On] [Off]

Bilingual Audio Selection (REC) (page 16)
Select whether to record the main or secondary audio type when recording to DVD-R or when recording using LPCM sound. [M1] [M2]
