Installing a Memory Module
For help installing the memory module, contact for your nearest Sony Service Center.

For the customers in the U.S.A. and Canada
Memory upgrades must be performed by an authorized Sony Service Center. If you attempt to upgrade the memory yourself, your memory module and your computer will not be covered by Sony's limited warranty. Technical support for problems involving customer installed memory may require fees.

Turn off your computer and remove all the cables connected to it.
Remove the battery.

When the computer has cooled completely, turn it upside down and remove the screw on the lid of the memory module.
The computer gets warm after it is turned off. To avoid burns to fingers or hands, let the computer cool completely before detaching the memory module lid.

Before use
Before using the memory module, please read this manual thoroughly and retain it for future reference. See the Sony Notebook Computer User Guide for the information about adding memory. The Sony PCGA-MM532SD/MM564SD is the memory module for the Sony Notebook Computer. This memory module cannot be used with any other computer.

If a memory module has been installed, remove it.
Lift up the edge of the memory module to remove it. If you do not need to remove the memory module, skip this step. Lift up the edge.

Precautions
On handling
Electrostatic discharge can damage electronic components. Before touching a memory expansion board, ensure the following: � Handle the memory module gently. � Ensure that you are discharged of static electricity by touching a grounded metal object. � Do not work on a carpeted area. � Do not open the memory module unit package until you are ready for use. The package protects the memory module from electrostatic discharge.

On Upgrading the System Due to the use of high precision components and the technology of the electronic connectors of your Notebook computer and memory modules, to avoid the invalidation of your Guarantee by mishandling, Sony Corporation recommends that: � you contact your dealer to install a new memory module, � you do not install it yourself, � you do not touch the connectors or open the memory panel. On keeping
Use the special bag or wrap the module in aluminium foil to protect it from electrostatic discharge. Do not subject the memory module to: � Heat sources, such as radiators or air ducts � Direct sunlight � Excessive dust � Mechanical vibration or shock � Strong magnets or speakers that are not magnetically shielded � Ambient temperature of more than 95°F (35°C) or less than 50°F (10°C) � High humidity

Close the memory module lid on the computer.
Fasten the screw tightly.

Turn on your computer, click the Performance tab on the System Property window and check that the memory amount is correctly expanded.
If the memory amount is correctly expanded, memory expansion is finished. If the memory amount is not correct, turn off your computer and repeat steps 1 to 6.
