4. 2 Controlling Cubase SL/SX 3 using Automap Cubase Automapping is now on Version 2, which features Mixer support as well as VST Instrument control. The ROW SELECT button in the bottom left of the ReMOTE SL switches between Mixer and Instrument mode, as shown in the diagram in the Mixer Mode section. In order for Cubase Automapping to work, the SL must be selected as the MIDI controller within Cubase. To do this, select Device Setup from the Devices Menu and click the + symbol in the top right of the panel. This should open up a list where Novation ReMOTE SL can be selected, as follows:
Pot, encoder and slider data is sent down USB Port 2 of the SL in Automap Mode, for controlling VSTs (unless this has been changed in EDIT or TEMPLATE Mode). Meanwhile, the default setting for keyboard and joystick data is USB Port 1. This means that the Device Setup for the SL in Cubase needs to have Port 2 selected as its MIDI input/output settings, as follows:
Now, the SL will automatically load the Automap Template when Cubase is booted up and Automapping can begin. MIXER Mode The right hand side of the SL controls the track levels, solos and mutes, as follows: Sliders: Track levels Top Buttons: Solos Bottom Buttons: Mutes Use the SCROLL UP/DOWN buttons (arrow buttons to the right of the screens) to change the group of tracks controlled by the sliders and buttons. The names of the currently selected tracks will be shown on the display above. With the ROW SELECT button alongside the row of sliders active, individual track metering will also be shown on the display whilst the song plays.
