Connecting up
Please refer to the main operating instructions if you want to connect other components, such as a cable box or satellite receiver.

Putting the batteries in the remote control � Insert two AAA/R03 batteries into the battery compartment following the indications ( , ) inside the compartment.

Composit connection is recommended. For high-resolution image, select component connection or S-Video connection.
Switching on and setting up
Switch on the recorder. Also switch on your TV and make sure that the video input is set to this recorder. Select an OSD language.

Wait 30 minutes with the power turned off, after the antenna or cable is connected, for the auto clock feature to activate. After the clock is set automatically, you may have to set the time zone and daylight saving time. (Please see the chapter on Setting the clock in the main operating instructions.)

Press SETUP. The SETUP MENU screen will appear. Select how you receive your TV channels.

Press C or D to select SYSTEM SETUP , and press ENTER. The submenu appear. Press C or D to select LANGUAGE, and press ENTER.
The LANGUAGE menu will appear. Press C or D to select OSD LANGUAGE, and press ENTER. Press C or D to select the desired language, and press ENTER.

The AUTO CH MEMORY function will be activated. The channel display will count up and, when finished, the screen returns to normal. That completes basic setup.
If you�re using a widescreen TV, please also see TV SCREEN in the main Operating instructions to set the TV screen size.
Press RETURN once to return to the previous screen. Press C or D to select CH SETUP , and press ENTER. CH SETUP menu will appear. You cannot select CH SETUP if you set the channel to L1 or L2.
Press C or D to select TV/CABLE SELECT, and press ENTER. Press C or D to select TV or CABLE, and press ENTER.
Press C or D to select AUTO CH MEMORY, and press ENTER.

Making your first recording
This quick guide shows you how to make a basic recording of a TV program to a recordable DVD.
Playing back your recordings
When playing back a recorded disc, you can display the TITLE MENU and select the title to be played back.
Open the disc tray and load the supplied blank DVD-RW disc.
Open the disc tray. Load a blank DVD-RW. Close the disc tray.
Display the TITLE MENU.
� Press TITLE MENU. The TITLE MENU will appear.

Select title you want to play then press ENTER.
� Use the C or D buttons to browse the list of titles.

Select the TV channel you want to record.
You can also use the number buttons: For example, to select channel 4, press 0, 0, 4; for channel 34, press 0, 3, 4; for channel 102, press 1, 0, 2.
After playing: If you want to erase or edit your recording, please see the chapter on Editing in the main operating instructions.
Start recording.
� When you want to stop recording, press 3 STOP. � The TV program will be recorded on the DVD disc as a single title with one or more chapters. After recording: Press 1 PLAY to start playback.
Use ONLY discs that feature one of these logos:
DVD-Video Play Rec DVD-R Play Rec DVD-RW Play Rec DVD-RAM Play Rec

To play a DVD(-R/RW) disc recorded on this unit you must finalize the disc to insure compatibility with other DVD players. In addition if you are using a DVD-RW disc you must record in Video mode.
